Learn More about Penang

Penang is an island in the north of Malaysia connected to the mainland by a wonderful bridge, although perhaps the best way to reach the largest city, Georgetown, is by ferry, which takes only 10 minutes to cross the tongue of water. Georgetown in itself is a city to be discovered in a few days and if you want to do some sightseeing you just have to take one of the many local buses that form an enviable transport network throughout the island (there is even a free bus that runs through the historic city centre). And there are none of the typical paradise beaches of this part of the world. You don't even need to take a boat to get here. The city of Georgetown may be one of the main centres of development in Malaysia, with its shopping centres, office buildings, business people... but it is also an important gastronomic centre. The mix of cultures means that in just a few metres you can taste very different dishes, and all of them delicious, as well as my beloved teh Tarik! There are even guides that suggest restaurant routes so that you don't miss out on any of the many typical dishes. The religious route has the population with various origins, in the same street you can see Buddhist temples, mosques, Christian churches, a Jewish cemetery, Taoist or Hindu temples... A few kilometres away is the largest Buddhist temple in Malaysia: Kek Lok Si. It is part of a group of temples around a square on the side of a hill, on the top of which stands a statue of a goddess almost 40 metres high, truly spectacular. The northern part of the island, called Batu Ferringhi is where many local rich people spend their holidays and spend their money.
